Mary Todd Lincoln House (Lexington, KY)

This three-story home was originally built in 1803-1806 and served as an inn. Mary Todd Lincoln, former First Lady and wife of 16th President Abraham Lincoln, spent many years of her childhood here when she wasn’t away at school. Mary’s mother died when she was six, with her father remarrying; between the two families there was a total of 14 children. The museum today is furnished with period pieces from the 1830’s and 1840’s and contains original Todd and Lincoln family pieces throughout the home.
It is advised that you check the home’s website for hours and tour information. The home is only open mid-March through the end of November. There is a cost of admission for adults and children over the age of 6, which is for access to the museum and a one hour guided tour. Group tours and field trips are also available by appointment. There are annual events held throughout the year, including President’s Day in February, an annual luncheon in the Fall and Mary’s Birthday celebration in December. Photography is not allowed inside the home. A gift shop is located on the property. |
