In late June 2023, I published a two-video series on the Lincoln Home National Historic Site in Springfield, Illinois. I first visited this location in March 1979, when I was two months shy of three years old. It is one of my oldest memories, so I felt it was fitting to have this be my first video.
The first video sets the stage by giving a background & overview of the Illinois Abraham Lincoln knew. This includes discussion on how Illinois legislatures fought to support slavery, even though they were considered a "free state". As someone who spent 8 years of school in Illinois, even I was surprised and what I discovered when I researched the topic. The video ends with background information on Abraham and his future wife, Mary Todd.
The second video focuses on the Lincoln's life after marriage, and the times they went through once they purchased the house in May 1844. It also talks about what happened to the house when the family went to Washington DC in 1861, and it's history after the assassination. I then go through my favorite things about the house, and wrap-up with some helpful suggestions for your time there, including how to access it online if you're unable to make the journey.
Next up will be a spotlight on the Lincoln Tomb, so stay tuned! Please like, subscribe, and hit the notification bell so you'll know when videos post!
